When to modify the BOM for a job
Every manufacturing order (MO) pulls its materials from the item's bill of materials (BOM). Sometimes one job needs something different. You might swap in a substitute ingredient, add extra packaging, or use more or less of a component for a trial run.
The Modify BOM button lets you make those changes on a single MO. The changes apply only to that job. The item's BOM versions and every other MO keep their original materials.
ℹ️ Note: To change the materials for every future job, update the item's BOM version instead. Modify BOM is for one-off changes.
Change material quantities for this job
Open the manufacturing order you want to change.
On the Overview tab, go to the Materials section.
Click Modify BOM, next to the Auto pick dropdown.
In the Quantity column, enter the amount of each item needed to make one unit of the finished item.
The table shows each material's Type (Buy for purchased items, Make for items you produce), its Unit, Unit cost, and Static cost. The Planned qty in the Materials table multiplies each quantity by the MO's target quantity. For example, 50 g of an ingredient for a target of 50 pcs gives a planned quantity of 2,500 g.
Add or remove materials for this job
In the Modify BOM window, click Add/Remove items in the top-right corner of the table. The Select items window opens.
Search for the items you need and check the box next to each one. To remove an item, clear its checkbox.
To review your choices, click the Items selected button in the bottom left corner. Only the selected items are shown. Click View all items to go back to the full list.
Click Update items. The new items appear in the Modify BOM table.
Enter the Quantity of each new item needed to make one unit of the finished item.
💡 Pro Tip: If the item you need doesn't exist yet, click Create new item in the Select items window to add it without leaving the MO.
Save your changes
Click Save at the bottom right of the Modify BOM window. The Materials table on the Overview tab updates to show the new items and quantities. From there, you can pick materials for the job as usual.
Your job now has its own materials list
You can now tailor the materials for a single job without touching the item's BOM. This keeps your standard BOM accurate while giving you room for substitutions, trial runs, and one-off changes.
