Find quality checks on a manufacturing order
Quality checks are part of your daily production routine. They help you track what's working and what needs improvement in your output.
To see the quality checks for a job, open the manufacturing order (MO) and click the Quality tab in the middle panel. The table lists every quality check (QC) logged on that MO:
Column | What it shows |
Quality check # | The QC number. A notepad icon next to it means the QC has a note. |
Quality checkpoint | The production stage where the check was done. |
Pass/fail | Whether the output passed or failed the check. |
Files | How many supporting files are attached. |
Completed by | Who logged the check. |
Timestamp | When the check was logged. |
Scroll the table to the right to see Completed by and Timestamp.
Create quality checkpoints
Quality checkpoints are the stages where your team inspects output, such as an incoming ingredient inspection or a final release inspection. Every QC is logged against a checkpoint, so if your organization hasn't set any up yet, start here.
ℹ️ Note: Only Admins and Managers can create or remove quality checkpoints. If you're an Operator and the checkpoint you need is missing, ask an Admin or Manager to add it.
To create a quality checkpoint:
On the MO's Quality tab, click Log quality check.
Open the Quality checkpoint dropdown and click Edit options. The Edit quality check types modal opens.
Click Add an option, then type a name for the checkpoint.
Repeat for as many checkpoints as your process needs. To remove one, click the x next to it.
Click Save.
Your checkpoints now appear in the Quality checkpoint dropdown, ready to select whenever someone logs a QC.
📘 Sutton Tip: Name checkpoints after the stage they cover, like Temper and snap check or Bar weight check, so anyone logging a QC can pick the right one at a glance.
Log a quality check
All roles can log a quality check, including Operators on the shop floor.
To log a quality check:
Open the MO you're working on and click the Quality tab.
Click Log quality check. The Log quality check modal opens.
Select the checkpoint from the Quality checkpoint dropdown.
Select Pass or Fail from the Pass/fail dropdown.
Optional: attach supporting files, such as photos or lab results. Drag them into the upload area, or click Browse to find them.
Optional: add any context in Notes, such as why the check failed or what to look at next.
Click Log quality check.
The new QC appears in the table with its number, checkpoint, result, and file count. If you added a note, a notepad icon shows next to the QC number. Hover over the icon to read the note.
✅ Best practice: When a check fails, attach the supporting files and explain what happened in Notes. Whoever reviews the QC later will have the full picture without having to chase anyone down.
Update a quality check
If a QC was logged with the wrong result or is missing a file, you can update it instead of logging a new one.
To update a quality check:
On the MO's Quality tab, click the QC number in the Quality check # column. The QC opens with its current details.
Change the checkpoint, result, files, or notes as needed.
Click Update quality check.
ℹ️ Note: Admins and Managers can update a QC after it's logged. Operators can log QCs but can't change them afterward. If an Operator's QC needs a correction, an Admin or Manager can update it. If your organization uses custom roles, your admin decides who can update QCs.
Your quality checks are now logged
Every QC on the MO now lives in the Quality tab, with the checkpoint, result, files, and notes in one place. Your team can review what passed, dig into what failed, and see who checked what and when.
